Is Your Body Story Keeping You From Happiness?

GUEST ARTICLE BY DR. KIRK PRINE

Are past memories, stored at a cellular level in your body, keeping you from happiness?

With the huge focus on “changing your mindset” these days in the self-improvement world, we may be missing out on a huge piece of the healing equation: our body wisdom.

Mind set is in the body, not just the brain. The body itself is a storehouse of information and wisdom. And as some ancient traditions teach, your consciousness is not in your head or in your brain, but stored in every cell of your body from your head to your toes.

A Body Story is the accumulation of life experiences stored in your physical and energetic body.

A Body Story may be the result of a traumatic experience. Examples may include ….
any type of abuse, a loss of investment, loss of security or self esteem through divorce, debt, death, disease, war, natural disaster, loss of career, or being involved in a dysfunctional business partnership.  Body stories may also be the result of a lack of nurturing, neglect, sloppy boundaries, or other lack experience. These may not have even come from bad intentions. They can be stored from our earliest childhood memories or something much more recent. Body Stories are generally expressed as some sort of stress, pain or vulnerability to disease.

For example, a friend I worked with had multiple infections with AIDS and was expected to die. His relationship with his father growing up had been extremely abusive and he had not had any contact with his father for years. As he lay in a hospital bed ready to die, his father visited him. “Nothing to lose,” my friend thought as he blurted out all the anger, rage and longing he had pent up inside of his dying body. Many tears were shed between the two of them. A short time later my friend was miraculously released from the hospital —  a free and healed man. My friend’s Body Story had made him very ill. My friend’s death was not in his body, but to an old identity of being a victim of his past. His body was sending him a very profound message, and if he had not listened, he wouldn’t be here today.

Ask yourself this question:

Do you have lower back pain, migraines, chronic conditions or any number of problematic symptoms in your body?

It could be the result of a “body story”.  I urge you to stop and listen.

Becoming aware of the body story is the first step. It’s possible to shift these stored cellular memories, often in simple ways such as taking deep conscious breaths or journaling. Bringing an attitude of compassion to exploring and releasing your Body Stories is very important.
